Cantilever racking is a storage system designed specifically for long, bulky, or +-awkwardly shaped items that wouldn't work well on standard pallet racking systems. Unlike pallet racks, cantilever racks have no vertical posts in front, which creates a completely open storage area.

Heavy duty cantilever rack is also called structural cantilever rack or H beam cantilever rack, both upright height and arm length is adjustable, so we call it adjustable heavy duty cantilever rack. Cantilever rack can be made single sided or double sided, single sided cantilever rack has base and arms 

on one side only. Double sided has base and arms both sides.

Basic Components:

1. Cantilever Uprights

The vertical support columns that are the backbone of the cantilever rack. Cantilever bases and arms attach to the uprights to complete the cantilever rack system.

Uprights are available in single or double sided configurations. Single sided cantilever racks allow material to be stored on the front side only. With double sided uprights, material can be stored on both the front and back sides of the rack.

2. Cantilever Arms And Bases 

Extend out from the uprights to create the levels that are used for storage, similar to pallet rack beams. The arms are typically adjustable on the upright to create shelf levels of whatever height are needed. Arms can be straight or inclined to hold goods that may roll off. Some arms even come with a "lip" that attaches to the end of the arm to prevent loads from slipping off the front of the rack.

3. Cantilever Braces

Go between uprights to stabilize the rack laterally. Braces are not intended to hold loads and should only be used to connect and brace the uprights in a row. The braces will be the same length as the spacing between uprights.

How To Design Cantilever Rack Systems

1.Measure your product

Including the goods length, depth, height and also the weight.

2.  Determine the correct number and spacing of arms

Arm spacing formula: the load should overhang the cantilever arms evenly and be more than one-half the distance from upright centerline to upright centerline. Friendly reminder the upright must be supported by enough arms to prevent load deflection.

3.Determine the proper arm length

Principle: the depth of the load should never exceed the arm length.

4.Determine the upright height

You should consider the ceiling height, forklift reach.

5.Determine cantilever arm and upright capacity

The upright capacity is decided by arm capacity and levels, if it is double sided cantilever rack, please don’t forget to count the arms on both sides.
